On August 14th, 2024, Fort Providence RCMP received a report of suspicious activity believed to be related to drug trafficking taking place at a local cabin. The building was supposed to be vacant.
Officers responded and arrested four subjects for Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House. Evidence of drug trafficking was located during the arrests, including over $4700 in cash. A search warrant was obtained for the cabin and executed, which further led to the seizure of four firearms, ammunition, further evidence of drug trafficking and a small amount of suspected crack-cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, 4 male subjects, all from Alberta are facing charges.
21-year-old Aken Aken and 20 year-old Wyatt Herda-Savard have been charged with:

Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House, contrary to section 349(1) of the Criminal Code

Possession of Proceeds of Crime, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Aken is facing an additional charge of Obstructing a Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.
Two 16-year-old males have been similarly charged however they cannot be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Aken was held to appear before a Justice of the Peace where he was subsequently released to attend court on September 26th, 2024. The remaining subjects were released on Undertakings to appear in court December 5th, 2024.
