Elder Yvan Steven Paul, a revered guardian of ancient knowledge, recently led J Division on a transformative journey to explore the timeless wisdom of Indigenous teachings.

Throughout the series, participants discovered the interconnectedness of all living beings and the core values of Indigenous traditions passed down through generations via the Seven Sacred Teachings. Attendees were encouraged to embrace unity and connection, learning to integrate these profound principles into their lives and communities to promote harmony, respect, and balance.

What are the Seven Sacred Teachings?

The Seven Sacred Teachings are a guideline for living in harmony with all our relations. They include love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth.

Each teaching is represented by a different animal, including the eagle, buffalo, bear, raven, beaver, wolf, and turtle.

Elder Paul, also known as Tulley Eagle Star Man, hails from Metepanagiag First Nation along the Miramichi River in New Brunswick. He is a respected Sun dancer, Sweat Lodge keeper, and Sacred Pipe carrier, as well as a Spiritual Advisor who collaborates with Indigenous leaders and government officials across Canada. He also shares his teachings with schools, universities, and government agencies, and has established the Healing Center known as Mother Earth Lodge in Metepanagiag.

J Division expresses gratitude to Elder Tulley Paul for sharing his knowledge and wisdom.

If you wish to learn more, "The Seven Sacred Teachings" book used in the Indigenous Voice Learning Series was published by his brother, Elder George Paul of Metepenagiag First Nation, NB.
