Cross Lake RCMP respond to drowning

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 7:35 am, RCMP responded to a drowning on Cross Lake, near the boat launch, in Pimicikamak Cree Nation.

A group of people were at the boat launch when they observed approximately 200 metres away a male struggling in the water and calling for help. Two of the individuals entered the water to try and pull the male to safety, however the male went under the water and didn't re-surface.

Cross Lake RCMP, Fire and Rescue and community members began searching the water.

At approximately 7:05 pm, RCMP were notified that a body had been recovered by searchers. The investigation has determined that the body was that of a 32-year-old male from the community.

An autopsy will be conducted and Cross Lake RCMP continue to investigate.
