News release

On November 22nd, 2023, a press release was issued detailing the execution of a search warrant in Fort Smith on November 18th, 2023 in relation to a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation. This investigation resulted in the arrest of several people, including Abel Leule of Alberta, who was located in Fort Resolution hiding unlawfully in an elder's residence. He was subsequently charged with numerous drug-related and other criminal offences.

On August 9th, 2024, court proceedings against Leule concluded. He was found guilty and sentenced to 19 months of custody, a 20-year firearms prohibition and 3 years of probation with a condition to remain outside of the Northwest Territories.

This outcome is a positive one, highlighting the excellent police-work and collaboration of "G" Division detachments. Fort Resolution RCMP would like to express their thanks to members of the public that provided information leading to the arrest and ultimately the conviction of Leule, sending a clear message that drug dealers are not welcome in the community.
