Clarenville RCMP responds to break and enter in progress, two individuals arrested

Two men were arrested on July 10, 2024, by Clarenville RCMP during a break and enter that was in progress at the Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Communications site located off the Trans-Canada Highway near Sunnyside.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., police received a report of the possible break and enter. RCMP Police Dog Services, RCMP Traffic Services East and Clarenville RCMP responded. Working together, police arrested the two men who were walking away from the scene of the crime.

RCMP Police Service Dog Marlow and her handler searched the area. A vehicle was located hidden in the bushes a short distance away and was seized as part of the investigation. The stolen property, as well as the tools that were used to commit the crime, were located and seized.

One man was released on conditions and is set to appear in court at a later date to answer to pending charges of:

  • Break and enter
  • Mischief over $5000.00 – damage to property
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of break in tools/instruments
  • Theft under $5000.00

The other man, 42-year-old David Traverse of Heart's Delight, was held in custody and appears in court today. He is charged with the following offences:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of break in tools/instruments
  • Wearing disguise with intent
  • Theft under $5000.00
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon – brass knuckles
  • Mischief over $5000.00 – damage to property
  • Fail to comply with a condition of a release order – two counts
