In June 2024, Assiniboia RCMP received a report of a robbery at a residence near Ardill, SK. Investigation determined an individual was threatened with a firearm, assaulted and robbed. The victim was treated at hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
Investigation determined a firearm was also pointed at the same victim in a separate incident involving one of the suspects from the robbery.
As part of the investigation, Assiniboia RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Ardill on June 27, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team.
They located and seized four firearms and ammunition from the residence.
Two individuals were arrested at the residence, and a third at a residence in Mossbank.
As a result of continued investigation, 64-year-old Kevin Lacasse from Ardill is charged with:
- two counts, point a firearm, Section 87, Criminal Code;
- one count, utter threats, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code;
- two counts, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, carry a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94, Criminal Code;
- one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code; and
- one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code.
24-year-old Chaze Kober from Mossbank is charged with:
- one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, use a firearm in the commission of an offense, Section 85(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, use a firearm in a careless manner, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, carry a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;
- one count, point a firearm, Section 87, Criminal Code;
- one count, possess a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, robbery with firearm, Section 344(1)(a.1), Criminal Code.
40-year-old Benjamin Knudson from Ardill is charged with:
- one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, robbery, Section 344(1)(b), Criminal Code; and
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code.
He was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.
The three accused appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on June 28, 2024.
