Arrest made in hit and run death

On June 25, 2024 the General Investigation Section of Whitehorse Detachment arrested the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed a cyclist on the Alaska Highway on June 13, 2024.

Police officers worked tirelessly to gather evidence, interview witnesses and follow up on the tips provided by the public.

Adam Lougheed, a 41 year old male, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with: driving while prohibited, dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of a collision that caused death.

Lougheed appeared in court on June 25 and was held in custody.

Adam Lougheed has several pending charges in the Yukon, Alberta and British Columbia. At the time of the hit and run death, Lougheed was bound by a court ordered Canada Wide Driving Prohibition. At the time of the arrest for the death, he was in custody pending a bail hearing for incidents in Whitehorse, Yukon on June 18, 2024 and June 21, 2024.

On June 18, 2024, Whitehorse RCMP responded to a report of a male who had been stabbed and his vehicle stolen. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The victim and the suspect were known to each other. On June 21, 2024, a police officer observed the stolen vehicle driving in Whitehorse. Police resources were deployed including the Emergency Response Team and the Crime Reduction Unit. Adam Lougheed was arrested without incident and the vehicle was recovered. Lougheed was charged with: robbery, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death, operate motor vehicle while prohibited, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Again, Yukon RCMP extend our condolences to the family of the deceased, and our gratitude to the first responders, community members and witnesses on June 13, 2024 and throughout this investigation.
