Alert Ready no longer active, RCMP still search for 47-year-old man

The New Brunswick RCMP have ended the Alert Ready message for the Esgenoopetitj (Burnt Church) First Nation area. Police continue to search for a 47 year-old man, who remains at large, and ask the public to contact police if they had information on his whereabouts.

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 3:59 p.m., the New Brunswick RCMP issued an Alert Ready message to advise residents of Esgenoopetitj (Burnt Church) First Nation area to remain inside their homes, and others to avoid the area, while police searched for a man who was believed to be armed and dangerous with intent.

Residents in the area may now resume their normal activities, however, police ask that any suspicious activity in the area be reported immediately. Police are continuing to search for 47-year-old man, who is evading police, and is believed to be carrying a firearm with dangerous intent. Based on the progression of the investigation, police believe this to be an isolated incident.

Police are encouraging residents to remain vigilant, and continue to report any tips and sightings of the man. There will be an increased police presence in the area as police continue their search. If you are not a resident of the communities affected, please continue to avoid the area.
