On Dec. 15, 2024, at 5:12 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a residential house fire near 53 Avenue and 45 Street in Wetaskiwin. Wetaskiwin and Millet Fire Departments arrived and put out the blaze.
Once in the home, investigators located a deceased male. An autopsy will be completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, in order to determine the cause of death and confirm identity. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was notified and has taken carriage of the investigation.
Initial investigation indicates a suspect was observed running from the home with portions of their clothing on fire.
The Alberta RCMP continue to investigate this incident and are asking the public for assistance.
