An 81-year-old woman, from Miscou, and a 61-year-old man, from Coteau Road, have died following a four-vehicle collision in Pointe-Alexandre, N.B.

On September 3, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., members of the Lamèque RCMP Detachment, Ambulance New Brunswick, and the Lamèque Fire Department responded to a report of a four-vehicle collision at the intersection of Pointe-Alexandre Road and Route 313, in Pointe-Alexandre.

The collision is believed to have occurred when a truck towing a trailer, traveling Northbound on Route 313, tried to avoid colliding with a vehicle which was stopped, ready to turn, also travelling Northbound on Route 313. The truck crossed the centre line and collided head-on with another vehicle. The truck and trailer left the roadway and caught fire. The driver, a 61-year-old-man and sole occupant of the truck towing the trailer, was transported to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The 81-year-old woman, a passenger of the vehicle involved in the head-on collision with the truck and trailer, died at the scene as a result of her injuries. The driver of this vehicle suffered minor injuries.

A fourth vehicle also collided with the vehicle involved in the head-on collision. The driver and sole occupant of the that vehicle was also uninjured.

The RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, the RCMP Forensic Collision Analyst Team, and members of the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety assisted at the scene.

The Lamèque RCMP would also like to thank members of the public who stopped to assist those in need from their communities.

The New Brunswick Coroner's office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
