36-year-old man charged following assaults

A 36-year-old man from Moncton has been charged in connection with two separate assaults in Moncton, N.B.

On August 16, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., the Codiac Regional RCMP received a report of an assault with a weapon on Second Avenue in Moncton. When police arrived on scene, it was determined that a man had been assaulted by another man with a weapon. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The unknown man fled after committing the assault, before police had arrived at the scene.

On August 19, 2024, at approximately 10:13 p.m., a Codiac Regional RCMP officer witnessed a disturbance between two men on Vaughan Harvey Boulevard, also in Moncton. When the officer intervened, one of the men fled the scene. The second man had been assaulted, and was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, police were able to confirm that the same man was responsible for both assaults, and he was positively identified.

On August 27, 2024, Codiac General Investigation Section, Codiac Crime Reduction Unit and general duty members executed a warrant at a residence on Purdy Avenue in Moncton. A 36-year-old man was arrested without incident and taken into custody.

On August 28, 2024, Dean Allen Sanford appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:

- Aggravated assault
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with release order condition

He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on September 27, 2024.

The investigation is ongoing.
