35-year-old man arrested in connection with firearm incident

A 35-year-old man from Upper Gagetown, N.B., has been arrested following a firearm incident near Lower Coytown Road, in Upper Gagetown.

On August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP received a complaint of a firearm being discharged multiple times towards the Saint John River.

When police arrived at the scene, they were able to quickly identify a person of interest. Shortly after, the 35-year-old man was arrested without incident at his nearby residence in connection with the incident.

He was later released on conditions pending a future court appearance. His firearms were also seized as part of the investigation.

At the time, police believed the incident to have been isolated, and that there was no danger to the general public. No one was injured at the time of the incident.

The New Brunswick RCMP would like to remind the public that in accordance with the Firearms Act, individuals must make their target shooting area safe and ensure that projectiles do not stray onto neighbouring properties. Please check with your municipality to confirm if firearms can be legally discharged in your area.
