Yarmouth Town RCMP charge two people in break and enter

Yarmouth Town RCMP has charged two people who broke into a business on Adelaide St. in Yarmouth.

On October 27, 2023, Yarmouth Town RCMP responded to a report of a break-in at a business on Adelaide St. in Yarmouth. RCMP officers learned that the business was broken into overnight and that a number of tools, an ATV and a Nissan Sentra were stolen.

The investigation was assisted by RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Southwest RCMP Traffic Services and, two suspects were identified early on in the investigation.

Later in the day on October 27, the ATV and some of the tools were located at a property on Butler St. in Yarmouth. These items were seized.

The Nissan Sentra was then located on Hwy. 103 near Yarmouth and a traffic stop was initiated. Two people were located in the vehicle and both were safely arrested. Evidence was located in the vehicle that linked the people to the break-in at the business on Adelaide St. and the vehicle was seized.

Teaghan MacKay, 21, and Katie Gilks, 19, both of Yarmouth, have been charged with Break and Enter, Possession of Break-In Instruments, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Theft under $5,000. Both were remanded into custody.

MacKay will appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on November 1, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. and Gilks will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on November 6, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
