News release

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announces charges laid against two individuals for drug trafficking and processing. André Chartrand, 50, of Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, and Jonathan Ranger, 43, of Saint-Colomban, are both facing five counts for trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, production and possession of items with intent to use for the production or trafficking of cocaine, and conspiracy.

These charges are the result of an investigation opened in the fall of 2021 by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU). As part of this investigation, a clandestine cocaine processing laboratory was dismantled by the Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team in April 2022 in Saint-Jérôme. Large quantities of chemicals were found on site. The illicit cocaine processing activities posed a significant safety hazard to the public due to a high risk of fire and explosion.

The two accused are scheduled to appear in court on April 21 at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.

About clandestine laboratories

A clandestine laboratory refers to a secret or concealed location where criminals produce or prepare synthetic drugs. Clandestine labs can be found in a variety of locations, such as homes, garages and warehouses. They pose a great danger not only to those who operate them, but also to neighbours and first responders. If you suspect illegal drug activity in your community, including clandestine labs, drug purchasing or toxic waste dumping, contact your local police service or Crime Stoppers (toll-free) at 1-800-711-1800.
