The search for a missing fisherman off the coast of Fleur de Lys is continuing today. The man was one of four occupants on board a commercial cod fishing boat that sunk on Monday afternoon. Last night, the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre advised it would be ceasing its search, at which time the RCMP assumed lead of the investigation as a missing persons case at sea.
Today, searches of the shoreline and water are continuing on land and in the air with resources from the Canadian Coast Guard, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, as well as search and rescue teams from Deer Lake, Grand Falls-Windsor and Springdale. Searchers from Deer Lake Search and Rescue will be exploring the use of side-scan sonar equipment.
The investigation into the cause of the sunken vessel is continuing in partnership with Transport Canada and Workplace NL.
Baie Verte RCMP thanks residents of Fleur de Lys and surrounding communities for their overwhelming support as police and partner agencies continue the search for the missing man.
