On August 24, 2023, at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers from the La Ronge RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) executed a search warrant at a residence located on the 100th block of Far Reserve Road in La Ronge District in relation to an ongoing drugs and weapons investigation.
La Ronge RCMP GIS was assisted by the Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team in La Ronge and the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team.
Officers secured a perimeter around the residence to ensure public and officer safety. No injuries were sustained by anyone involved in relation to this investigation.
One adult male was located and arrested on scene without incident.
A search of the property incidental to the arrest resulted in officers locating and seizing a handgun with the serial number defaced, approximately 4 oz. of suspected cocaine, a sum of cash in both Canadian and US currency, a cross-bow, drug paraphernalia, knives, a machete and a hatchet.
As a result of this investigation, 47-year-old Dennis Riley Charles from La Ronge District has been charged with the following:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, Sec. 5(2) CDSA;
- Possession of proceeds of crime, Sec. 354(1)(a) CC;
- Four counts, possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order, Sec. 117.01(1) CC;
- Three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Sec. 88(1) CC;
- Unsafe storage of a firearm, Sec. 86(2) CC;
- Possession of a handgun without being the holder of a licence, Sec. 91(1)(a) CC;
- Knowingly possess a handgun without being the holder of a licence, Sec. 92(2) CC; and
- Possession of a 9mm handgun knowing the serial number has been defaced, Sec. 108(1)(b) CC.
Dennis Riley Charles is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on August 25, 2023.
