RCMP warning public of buy-and-sell scam

The Sackville RCMP is warning the public of an online scam that has affected a resident of Sackville, N.B.

On February 12, 2023, the Sackville RCMP recovered a trailer in the community which had been reported as stolen from the Moncton area. The trailer had been purchased on an online platform but the buyer later discovered it had fraudulent registration documents.

Police are releasing surveillance footage photos in hopes that someone may recognize the individuals. The first individual is described as being a man with wearing a black toque, black jacket, black pants, and tan work boots. The second individual is described as being a woman with wearing a black toque, a black jacket, black pants, and tall black boots. They were last seen driving a black Dodge Ram pick up truck.

The seller involved in the scam went by the name Mike Hudson. Anyone who has information that could help further the investigation, or who has had dealings with this seller, is asked to contact the Sackville RCMP at 506-364-5023. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.

Anyone who feels that they have been a victim of this type of crime is encouraged to report it on the platform they are using, and to their local police. Victims should also notify their financial institution immediately if a fraudulent sale or transaction is suspected.
