The Saint-Léonard RCMP is asking for the public's help following a single-vehicle crash in St-Basile, N.B.
On July 26, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Saint-Léonard RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving an SUV which was hauling a trailer with a Jeep, on Highway 2 near St-Basile. The driver fled the scene before police arrived.
When police arrived, they determined that SUV and the Jeep had both been reported as stolen from Quebec. The trailer was also stolen.
A subsequent investigation identified two persons of interest; a 25-year-old man from Ontario who was later arrested by the Edmundston Police Force, and a 38-year-old woman, also from Ontario, who was later arrested by West District RCMP members.
On July 27, Tyler McPherson appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court, and was charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and obstructing a police officer. He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on July 31 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing.
On July 28, Lisa Laviolette appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court, and was charged with:
- Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime
- Two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking
- Two counts of failure to comply with conditions
She was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on August 1 at 1:30 p.m.
