RCMP members arrest armed individual following Remembrance Day ceremony

Two members of the West District RCMP, outfitted in ceremonial Red Serge, arrested an individual in possession of a loaded firearm following a Remembrance Day ceremony in Hartland, N.B.

On November 11, 2023, Sgt. Dan Sharpe and Cst. Cassandra Duguay of the West District RCMP, were leaving a Remembrance Day ceremony in Hartland, when they observed a suspicious vehicle nearby that was believed to be connected to an unrelated file that is currently under investigation.

When police approached the vehicle, the driver hopped out and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Sgt. Sharpe and Cst. Duguay apprehended the individual, who was found to be carrying a loaded firearm.

The individual, a 37-year-old man, was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Woodstock Provincial Court on February 13, 2024, at 9 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
