The New Brunswick RCMP recently conducted a traffic enforcement operation in the Tracadie region, resulting in 162 traffic violations.
On September 21 and 22, 2023, police conducted an enforcement operation targeting distracted and impaired driving, speeding and the proper use of seatbelts. The operation was led by the New Brunswick RCMP's Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU), with assistance from the Northeast District RCMP.
In total, 162 charges were issued under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act. These included 16 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, 58 tickets for speeding and 11 tickets for using a hand-operated electronic device while driving. Additionally, two people were issued a court date for driving while suspended.
"We want to help keep New Brunswickers safe behind the wheel by focusing our efforts on proper use of seatbelts, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving. These are the major factors that contribute to serious and fatal collisions" said Sgt. Ghislain David with the TTEU. "We used our checkpoints in the area as a way to interact with the public, and to highlight vehicle and public safety concerns."
The RCMP's TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement on roadways throughout the province with the goals of improving road safety, educating motorists about the rules, and to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions.
