July 27, 2023
Lac Baker, New Brunswick

News release

Between July 14 and July 16, 2023, members of the Saint-Léonard RCMP and the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU) were present in Lac Baker during the tourism festival.

TTEU members focused their efforts on the periphery of Lac Baker to ensure the safety of motorists during the festival, which brought a large number of people to the small community of Lac Baker. Members of the St-Leonard RCMP conducted a marine patrol, checking 31 boats on the lake, and also walking patrols to interact with families and festival participants.

In total, over 150 vehicles were checked, and a number of motorists were charged with a variety of driving related infractions, including 3 impaired operation charges. Several warnings were also issued to watercraft operators.

"The RCMP is committed to ensuring the safety of participants during such events, and will continue to focus their operations on preventing infractions as well as pursuing violations based on the situation." said Sgt Jean-Pierre Bouchard of the Saint-Léonard RCMP.

The New Brunswick RCMP's TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement on roadways throughout the province with the goals of improving road safety, educating motorists about traffic laws, and to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions.

The public can assist in keeping dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to police. If you see a dangerous or a suspected impaired driver, call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in making New Brunswick roads safer.
