The New Brunswick RCMP has finalized the allocation of the new frontline policing positions from the 2023 provincial budget increase announced in April.

After comprehensive research and analysis, new resources will be allocated as per the chart to each Regional Service Commission.

The new frontline positions were allocated to districts and Regional Service Commissions based on factors such as:

  • Full-time members to population (cop to pop);
  • Geographical coverage per full-time member (cop to km2);
  • File workload and number of priority calls per member;
  • Crime type and crime severity;
  • Impact of the Local Governance Reform (km and population coverage), and,
  • Feedback from District Commanders on specific district challenges.

The allocation per Regional Service District aims to achieve more consistent and balanced police to population and police to kilometer ratios between the different commissions.

"We were able to identify where the new frontline resources were most needed to provide a more equitable distribution of resources given the large areas we cover to enhance public and officer safety," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette with the New Brunswick RCMP. "We continue to invest in community engagement programs, training efforts, educational initiatives, and technology enhancements that contribute to a holistic approach to policing our communities."

The funding increase also supports new positions and resources in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), Digital Forensic Services (DFS), the Explosive Device Unit (EDU), the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Police Dog Services (PDS), the Operational Communication Centre (OCC), and the Major Crime Unit (MCU).

We ask for the public's support as we build to fill these positions over the next two years and we remain dedicated to fostering open lines of communication and collaboration as this growth is implemented.
