Portage la Prairie RCMP News Release sign

On February 4, 2023, at approximately 9:30 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a male had attended the hospital with severe stab wounds. A 27-year old male from Portage was treated and released.

RCMP continued to investigate the incident.

On February 9, 2023, at approximately 5:50 am, Portage RCMP received a report that a male had been struck in the head with a machete. The 25-year-old male victim, from Portage, was uncooperative with police and did not want the matter investigated. However, police were able to determine that the male was the suspect in the assault on February 4, as was the 28-year-old female, from Dugald, who was also present at the scene. She was arrested.

After the victim was treated for his injuries, he was arrested. Both suspects were charged with Aggravated Assault with a Weapon.

The victim in the original assault is not a suspect in the attack with the machete. It does not appear that the second attack was related to the first attack other than the suspect and the victim were the same individual.

The investigation continues. If you have information, please call Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
