Man and woman arrested following drug trafficking investigation

A 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Moncton, N.B., have been charged following a drug investigation in the community.

In December 2022, the Codiac Regional RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit and the New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Unit (NBIEU) began an investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs in Moncton.

On January 11, 2023, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Waverly Avenue in Moncton, in connection with the investigation. During the search, police seized quantities of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, and amphetamine, as well as number of weapons, and money.

On January 12, a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were both arrested at a residence in Moncton in connection with the investigation. The woman was later released.

On January 12, Daniel Troop appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking amphetamine
  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000
  • Fail to comply with release order condition

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on January 16.

This investigation was the result of a joint effort between the Codiac Regional RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and the New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Unit (IEU). The New Brunswick IEU is made up of members from the New Brunswick RCMP, as well as municipal police and Justice and Public Safety officers in the province. These efforts aim to improve the coordinated response to the growing concerns of drugs, firearms, and organized crime within New Brunswick.

Anyone with information about, or who suspects, illegal drug activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact their local police.
