News release

A 27-year-old man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the 2019 deaths of Bernard and Rose-Marie Saulnier.

On September 7, 2023, Janson Bryan Baker of Moncton, N.B., was charged in Moncton Provincial Court with two counts of first-degree murder. He was already in prison pending court proceedings on several other matters, and was remanded into the custody of Corrections Canada. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 14, 2023, in connection with the homicide charges.

The bodies of 78-year-old Bernard Saulnier and 74-year-old Rose-Marie Saulnier were found in their home on Amirault Street in Dieppe on September 7, 2019. The RCMP's Major Crime Unit and the Codiac Regional RCMP have been investigating the deaths as homicides.

"This has been an exceptionally complex investigation. This was a terrible crime against two well-loved people," says Staff Sergeant Jean-Marc Paré of the New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit. "Since that time, our investigators have been persistent on bringing those responsible to justice. We hope these charges and the ensuing legal proceedings will bring answers to their family, friends and community."

Luc Saulnier, on behalf of the family of Bernard and Rose-Marie Saulnier would like to express their "sincerest thanks to the investigators and support staff that have worked diligently on this case over the last four years. The charges laid today mean that we are one step closer in getting answers and closure for the deaths of my parents." He continues to ask for the family's privacy during this difficult time.

"This is still considered an active investigation, and we are still pursuing leads," says S/Sgt. Jean Marc Pare. "Throughout the investigation, we have asked for the public's help on several occasions. That help and support has been instrumental in this resolution. If you have information that can assist us on this incident or any others, please contact police or Crime Stoppers."
