News release

Montague RCMP have arrested a 26-year-old man from Montague for impaired driving following a two-vehicle collision on Route 3 in Roseneath, PEI.

At 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Montague RCMP received a 9-1-1 call about a two-vehicle collision on Route 3 in Roseneath. Island EMS and Montague Fire Department were also on scene, where it appeared one vehicle struck another from behind, causing both vehicles to end up in a ditch. A female passenger in the vehicle that was struck was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to hospital.

Only a few minutes before the collision, RCMP dispatchers received several calls from the public reporting a possibly impaired driver in the Montague area and police began searching for this vehicle. A vehicle matching the description from these calls was involved at the collision scene and the driver of that vehicle was arrested by RCMP for impaired driving.

The man was taken to Montague detachment where he failed additional alcohol screening tests. He was later released and is to appear in Georgetown Provincial Court at a later date. He received a 90-day suspension of his driving license and his vehicle was impounded for six months.

The RCMP wish to thank all members of the public who called in to advise seeing an impaired driver in this instance. The public play a key role in this way and whenever you see a possibly impaired driver, please call 9-1-1.
