Digby RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Hwy. 1 in Smiths Cove.
On July 23, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Digby RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Hwy. 1 in Smiths Cove. RCMP officers learned that a motorcycle had been travelling on Hwy. 1 when the driver lost control while negotiating a turn. The motorcycle came to rest against a guardrail.
Both the driver of the motorcycle, a 63-year-old Weymouth man and the passenger on the motorcycle, a 73-year-old Weymouth woman, suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital by ambulance.
RCMP officers later learned that after the woman arrived to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
