Blue Hills RCMP investigating collision at intersection of Highways 1 and 5

RM of North Cypress-Langford, Manitoba

News release

On July 31, 2023, at approximately 4:45 pm, Blue Hills RCMP received a report of a multi-vehicle collision at the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 5 in the RM of North Cypress-Langford.

When officers arrived on scene, three vehicles were found to be involved. Initial investigation has determined that a pickup truck southbound on Highway 5 entered the intersection at Highway 1, colliding with an eastbound SUV. The collision between the two caused the vehicles to push across the highway, where they collided with a third vehicle, which was waiting at a stop sign on Highway 5, south of Highway 1.

Three individuals are injured. Two were taken to local hospital while a third is being taken to Winnipeg hospital. Injuries appear serious at this time, but no fatalities are reported.

Highway 1 is partially closed for safety and investigation. The public should expect delays in the area and avoid it if possible.

"We very much appreciate that this may be extraordinarily upsetting for some people considering the recent mass casualty collision at the same intersection," said Inspector Lee Fortin of RCMP West District. "This is very early in this investigation and we need to do our work to confirm information and determine what happened. We will provide updates as soon as we are able. We urge anyone who is triggered by this incident to seek appropriate supports."
