Two men, 36-year-old Sheldon Newell and 33-year-old John Noseworthy of Bell Island, were arrested by Bell Island RCMP in relation to a residential arson that occurred on April 14, 2023. A home on Lance Cove Road was completely destroyed by fire.
Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on April 14, police received the report of the blaze, which is believed to have been set earlier that morning. The two men, who were captured on surveillance footage, were identified by police.
Later that day, Newell was arrested without incident for charges of arson and break and enter. He attended court and was remanded into custody.
In continuing the investigation, on April 17, officers obtained a warrant to search a home occupied by one of the accused and recovered further evidence to support the charges laid against both men.
Noseworthy, who was evading police over the preceding days, was arrested on April 19, 2023, after officers obtained a warrant to enter his home to effect his arrest. Inside the home, he resisted arrest and threatened police. Noseworthy is charged with break and enter, arson, resisting arrest, uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order.
Both men attend court today.
The investigation is continuing.
