Battlefords RCMP charge male after vehicle flees from officers

On May 2, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a robbery. Initial investigation determined two individuals approached a residence. The occupants were threatened and a set of keys was stolen from them.

Officers immediately responded and began patrolling the area. They located the suspect vehicle on 101nd Street, activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and continued driving.

Shortly after, the suspect vehicle passed a patrolling unmarked police vehicle in an intersection. Upon seeing the police vehicle, which did not have its emergency lights activated, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. It collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 103rd Street and 15th Avenue. The driver of the vehicle reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.

Officers arrested the passenger of the suspect vehicle at the scene of the collision. The driver fled on foot and was arrested a short time later with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services.

Officers located and seized bear spray, a baton and brass knuckles from the suspect vehicle during subsequent investigation.

33-year-old Tyson Mosquito from North Battleford is charged with:

  • one count, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, Section 91(3), Criminal Code;
  • two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(2), Criminal Code;
  • two counts, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon, Section 90(2), Criminal Code;
  • five counts, weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization, Section 117.01(3), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, Section 94(2), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, common nuisance – endanger lives of the public, Section 180(1), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear next in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 8, 2023.
