Yesterday, Nova Scotia RCMP members and employees, along with special guests from across the Province and Canada, came together for a Change of Command ceremony to officially welcome Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley as the new Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Nova Scotia.
The formal Change of Command ceremony included the National RCMP Eagle Staff, the RCMP Pipes and Drums Band, a marching troop of regular members and an honorary troop of 32 civilian members and public service employees. RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme attended the ceremony and officially handed over the reins of H Division by signing a parchment and exchanging the divisional ensign from the outgoing Commanding Officer, John Ferguson, to the new Commanding Officer, Dennis Daley.
"I'm privileged and profoundly humbled to lead the Nova Scotia RCMP," said A/Commr. Daley. "Together, we will serve and protect the communities we call home. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with our many partners and community leaders to enhance safety, build trust, and make a positive difference in the lives of Nova Scotians."
A 35-year member with the RCMP, A/Commr. Daley is no stranger to Nova Scotia. His very first posting was to New Minas in 1989. His career then took him to New Brunswick in 1995, where he served until 2007. He returned to Nova Scotia in 2009 when he was promoted to Inspector with Halifax District RCMP. He was promoted again in 2013, when he became Superintendent in charge of Administration and Personnel with the Nova Scotia RCMP.
In 2017, he was transferred to National Headquarters in Ottawa and promoted to Chief Superintendent, becoming the National Criminal Operations Officer. In 2019, he was named Assistant Commissioner before returning to the Nova Scotia RCMP in 2022.
"The Commanding Officer of H Division has a big job," said Commissioner Duheme. "As we have observed since his arrival, Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley's experience and strong commitment to community is helping him to lead the Division with great success."
As Commanding Officer, A/Commr. Daley will continue to focus on enhancing community policing initiatives, including building relationships with stakeholders and residents, and implementing strategies that address community safety and well-being. Gender-based violence, mental health, and organized crime are among his areas of focus.
