Alert Ready issued for armed individual, one person in custody

The New Brunswick RCMP has arrested an individual in connection with a firearms incident and an Alert Ready in Sussex, N.B.

An Alert Ready message was issued at 1:53 a.m. on November 11, 2023, following a report of shots fired near a business on Main Street, in Sussex. Residents of Sussex were asked to remain inside with doors locked, and others to avoid the area as there was an individual carrying a firearm with dangerous intent.

Shortly after the Alert Ready was issued, police located and arrested the suspect without further incident. One individual sustained what are believed to be serious but non life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

At 3:00 a.m., the Alert Ready was cancelled and residents were advised that they could now resume normal activities. One individual is in custody. We will share more information as we are able to.

The RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation during this incident.
