On Oct. 26, 2023, Alberta RCMP Chaplain Coordinator, George Madden, received the prestigious Public Service Award of Excellence at a ceremony in Ottawa.

With his passion for employee wellness, Chaplain Madden is recognized for having built the most diverse and inclusive chaplaincy program in the country, which currently includes female, Indigenous Elders, Military and Veteran chaplains offering supports in over 20 faiths.

The Public Service Award of Excellence distinguishes public servants who demonstrate efforts to tackle racism and advance reconciliation, accessibility, equity, and inclusion to build a strong public service for Canadians.

Together with the Manager of the RCMP Chaplaincy Program, Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Alberta RCMP Commanding Officer, had the honour of presenting Chaplain Madden with the award. in attendance.

" This is a highly prestigious and honoured award, recognizing those who exemplify respect, integrity, stewardship, professionalism and service to Canadians," says Deputy Commissioner Zablocki. "Since he joined us in 2017, George has worked tirelessly to bring diverse and inclusive spiritual wellness supports to the employees of the Alberta RCMP, representing over 20 different faiths. I am extremely lucky to have George on the Alberta RCMP team, and I am proud of him and all he accomplishes here in Alberta. On behalf of us all at the Alberta RCMP, congratulations George!"

During the pandemic, as Vice President- Canadian Police Chaplains Association, Chaplain Madden developed and made available numerous on-line training courses for police chaplains across the country. He was also recently awarded the RCMP Commissioner's Commendation for Outstanding Service and the Alberta Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal recognizing the impact of his leadership, innovation and dedication.

Given Chaplain Madden's unwavering dedication to serving, it is fitting that his life motto be: Always leave people better than you found them.
