A recent traffic enforcement operation in Centreville, N.B. has resulted in 85 tickets being issued and eight vehicles being towed.
On June 30 and July 1, 2023, members of the New Brunswick RCMP Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU) and the Department of Justice and Public Safety (DJPS) worked together to conduct a traffic enforcement operation during the Centreville Truck and Tractor Pull.
In total, 85 charges were issued under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act and eight vehicles were towed. Officers arrested one driver for failure to provide a breath sample and another for driving while prohibited. Three motorists also had their driver's licence suspended for a period of seven days.
Members also conducted a radar operation on Highway 2 where several drivers were issued tickets for speeding. Among them, six were fined for driving more than 25 km/h over the posted speed limit and three were fined for driving more than 50 km/h over the limit.
The RCMP wants to remind motorists that new dangerous driving laws are now in effect in the province. Anyone caught driving between 50-80 km/h over the speed limit will have their vehicle impounded for seven days, in addition to a $500 fine and five demerit points. Anyone caught driving 80 km/h over the speed limit will have their vehicle impounded for 30 days, be fined $1,000 and lose six points off their licence.
The New Brunswick RCMP's TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement on roadways throughout the province with the goals of improving road safety, educating motorists about traffic laws, and to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions.
