66-year-old man dies following single-vehicle crash

A 66-year-old man from Apohaqui, N.B., has died following a single-vehicle crash in Penobsquis, N.B.

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 1:14 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 1 in Penobsquis. The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old man, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The passenger of the vehicle was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle lost control, went over an embankment, and caught on fire.

Members of the Sussex Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the man's exact cause of death.
