A recent RCMP traffic enforcement operation in the Western region of the province has resulted in 44 vehicles being towed, and 89 tickets being issued.
On November 2and 3, 2023, members of the New Brunswick RCMP's Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU), local RCMP, Highway Safety Enforcement and officers and motor vehicle inspectors from the Highway Safety Enforcement Branch of the Department of Justice and Public Safety, worked together to conduct a traffic enforcement operation in the St. Stephen and Oromocto, N.B., areas. The Military Police also assisted in our joint operation at CFB Gagetown.
During the operation, 89 vehicles were escorted to a specific site to be assessed, 17 of which were deemed unsafe and towed at the owner's expense. A total of 89 traffic violations were issued under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act which included 8 for not wearing a seatbelt and 12 tickets for using a hand-held electronic device while driving. One person was also arrested for driving while suspended and another person was arrested driving while having a 7-day roadside suspension.
"We all have a role to play when it comes to making our roads and communities safer," says Sgt. Ghislain David with the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit. "Our top priority continues to be keeping the public safe by limiting the number of unsafe vehicles on our roadways."
The public can also assist in keeping dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to police. If you see a dangerous or a suspected impaired driver, call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in making New Brunswick roads safer.
