38-year-old man arrested on warrants

A 38-year-old man from Elm Hill, N.B., has been arrested on outstanding warrants following a foot pursuit in the community.

On October 21, 2023, members of the Oromocto RCMP detachment responded to a report that a man had fired a gun in the direction of another individual at a residence in Elm Hill. He then fled the scene before police got there. The individual was known to police, and was wanted on outstanding warrants in connection with unrelated matters.

On November 5, police responded to another call for service at the same residence in Elm Hill. The subject of the call for service fled the scene again before police arrived. Police later received information concerning the individual's whereabouts, and were able to locate the vehicle that he was travelling in on Cherry Hill Road, near Jemseg.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle which then fled at a high rate of speed before entering a field full of cattle. The vehicle then came to a stop, and the driver proceeded to flee on foot into a river. The individual then surrendered to police without further incident.

On November 6, Brett Gosman appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand, and was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing.
