37-year-old man charged, stolen vehicle recovered

A 37-year-old man from Saint John N.B., has been charged and a stolen vehicle has been recovered in Garnett Settlement, N.B.

On September 18, 2023, members of the Sussex RCMP were conducting a traffic enforcement operation on Route 111 in Willow Grove when an approaching vehicle turned around just before the stopping point. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled in a dangerous manner. The vehicle was located a few moments later after leaving the road and crashing off the Base Road in Garnett Settlement. The driver fled the scene on foot. The vehicle was determined to have been reported as stolen from Saint John, N.B.

Later that same day, police responded to a report of a suspicious person, and the individual was identified as being the same man from the incident earlier that morning. A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

On September 19, 2023, Stephen Dalling, from Saint John appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Driving with a suspended license.

He was remanded into custody until his return to court on September 21, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
