A 34-year-old man from Riverview, N.B., has plead guilty to a child pornography charge following an investigation in the community.

Between January and June 2020, members of the New Brunswick RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) conducted an investigation through proactive enforcement, involving an investigator posing as a child on an online messaging platform, into an individual who was found to be exchanging sexually explicit material and having conversations of a sexual nature with a child online.

On June 4, 2020, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Riverview as part of the ongoing investigation. A then 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

On March 22, 2023, Marcello Colasurdo appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with making available sexually explicit material to someone believed to be under 16. He subsequently plead guilty to the charge.

He is scheduled to return to court on June 2 for sentencing.

The New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. Members of the West District RCMP and the RCMP's Digital Forensic Services Unit are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
