29-year-old man arrested in connection with flight from police

A 29-year-old man from Harewood, N.B., has been arrested in connection with a series of incidents in Berwick, N.B.

On April 4, 2023 at approximately 2 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP detachment attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation but the vehicle failed to stop for police. The driver eventually pulled into a parking lot and police were able to confirm the identity of the driver, a 29-year-old man who was known to police. The driver then drove the vehicle into the police car, backed up and hit the police car a second time, and then fled the scene. The police car sustained significant damages and police were unable to locate the driver as a result.

On April 14, a warrant of arrest was issued for 29-year-old Denver Black who was wanted on several charges including assaulting a police officer, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, mischief to a police vehicle, and failing to comply with a probation order.

On May 2, members of the Hampton and Caledonia Region RCMP detachments located Denver Black at a residence in Elgin, N.B. He attempted to flee from police, but was arrested without incident minutes later.

On May 3, Denver Black appeared in Saint John Provincial Court by way of tele-remand. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 31.

The investigation is ongoing.
