Summerside man sentenced to four years in prison for drug trafficking

A 31-year-old man from Summerside, PEI, has been sentenced to four years in prison following a drug trafficking investigation in the community.

On January 10, 2021, members of the Prince District Joint Forces Operation (JFO) Unit conducted a targeted traffic stop in Borden as part of a drug investigation. Police seized quantities of cocaine, over two pounds of methamphetamine, cannabis, money, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Thane Douglas Simmons was subsequently charged with possession of methamphetamine and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling. He plead guilty on March 29, 2022. On July 12, he was sentenced to four years in prison. Following his release from prison, he will be prohibited from possessing a weapon for life.

The Prince District JFO Drug Unit is comprised of members of the Prince District RCMP, Summerside Police Services, and Kensington Police Services.
