On June 5, 2022, at approximately 10:55 pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report from an individual who indicated that they had a firearm pointed in their direction from occupants in a suspicious vehicle in a local gravel pit. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene. A description of this vehicle was provided to officers.
Patrols were made in the area and the suspect vehicle was later located at a residence located in the RM of Hanover. The vehicle's engine was still running and two occupants were observed inside. Officers arrested the male driver and male passenger of the vehicle, both 26-years-of-age, without incident. The officers were then advised that the firearm, along with additional suspects linked to the vehicle, were inside the residence.
Using a loud hailer, officers instructed the occupants to exit the residence. A 41-year-old male complied with instructions and exited the home. Other occupants inside the home refused to cooperate with the officer's demands. The residence was entered and officers located a 38-year-old female and a 33-year-old male in the residence who were arrested without incident.
A search warrant was drafted and executed where officers located and seized several firearms and ammunition.
Trevor Berg, 41-years-old, from the RM of Hanover, was remanded into custody on charges including Unsafe Storage of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon.
The following three males, all from Winnipeg, were charged and later released from police custody:
- Daniel Foui (33) – Point Firearm x 2, Weapons Possession Contrary to Order
- Robert Ingram (26) – Point Firearm, Fail to Comply with Probation
- Erik Peterson (26) – Point Firearm, Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon x2, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime & Fail to Comply with Probation
A 38-year-old female, also from Winnipeg, was released without charge.
Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate.
