Single vehicle crash claims life of 25-year-old man; sends two others to hospital

A single vehicle crash in Second North River, N.B., has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man and sent two others to hospital.

On April 15, 2022, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Caledonia Region RCMP, Salisbury Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Taylor Road and Route 112 near Salisbury. The crash is believed to have occurred when the driver of the car, travelling northwest bound on Route 112, lost control of the vehicle, left the road, and collided with a power pole.

A 25-year-old man from Moncton, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Two other passengers were transported to hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car, a 28-year-old man from Moncton, was not injured. The man showed signs of impairment and subsequently refused to provide a breath sample. He was arrested at the scene without incident.

On April 19, David Quinn appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of a tele-remand and was charged with:

  • Refusal to comply with demand, accident resulting in death
  • Two counts of refusal to comply with demand, accident resulting in bodily harm
  • Obstruction of a peace officer

David Quinn was found to be in violation of his parole and was returned to the custody of Correctional Service of Canada. He is scheduled to return to court on May 16.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office attended the scene and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
