News release

Don't believe everything you read! RCMP NL is informing the public of a number of fake social media posts that are circulating and causing fear among many residents.

Recently, a number of posts containing images and reports of dangerous offenders, as well as missing individuals, have been circulating on various classified advertisement social media pages. These false reports are causing safety concerns for residents who legitimately fear that there are dangerous offenders roaming within their community.

Residents can rest assured that if there were public safety concerns or missing persons within the areas policed by RCMP in NL, these reports would be communicated through RCMP NL social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, along with being communicated through major news outlets.

Individuals are encouraged to report such posts through the proper reporting process of the particular social media page where they are posted.
