RCMP arrest seven people in incident involving firearm

Yarmouth Rural RCMP has arrested seven people after an incident involving a firearm on Pent Ln. in Hebron.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on February 15, police responded to a report of an assault in progress on Pent Ln. in Hebron. While on route, police learned that a disagreement related to eviction had occurred and during the disagreement a woman was assaulted and a firearm was pointed at her.

Upon arrival, police closed Hwy. 340 for a short time while they attempted to negotiate everyone out of the home. Eight people exited the home within a few minutes and seven of them were arrested. The victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Four of the arrested people were transported to the Meteghan RCMP Detachment and lodged in cells. The other three arrested people were transported to the Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment and lodged in cells.

Police have continued to gather information and evidence related to this incident, including the seizure of two unrestricted firearms. As a result, six men were charged in this incident as follows:

Scott Anthony Deveau, 45, from Hebron, has been charged with Assault, Uttering Threats, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized and Failure to Comply with a Prohibition Order. Deveau was remanded into custody on February 16 and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 17. Deveau was released on conditions by the court and will return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on March 14, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Wadah Hendawi, 54, from Shelburne, has been charged with Assault (2 counts), Forcible Entry (2 counts), Mischief (3 counts), Pointing a Firearm, Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order, Failure to Comply with Conditions (2 counts). Hendawi was remanded into custody on February 16 and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 17. Hendawi was released on conditions by the court and will return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 23, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

A 48-year-old man from Hebron has been released on conditions and will be facing charges of Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized. He will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court at a later date.

A 23-year-old man, 22-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man, all from Shelburne, have been released on conditions and will be facing charges of Mischief (3 counts), Assault and Forcible Entry (2 counts).

The remaining person was released from custody and will not be facing charges.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the Yarmout/Clare RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit with assistance from the Yarmouth RCMP General Investigation Section, Yarmouth Town RCMP, Meteghan RCMP, Southwest RCMP Traffic Services, and RCMP Police Dog Services.
