PEI RCMP detachments have a few new members on duty – and they're real softies.
The PEI RCMP is collaborating with the RCMP Veteran's Association – PEI Division to welcome "Moose Mounties" across the Island.
The Moose Mountie is a plush moose dressed in red serge. The stuffed animals will be available for officers to use when interacting with a child that is injured or in distress, or as a source of comfort for a person suffering from a dementia-related illness. Those people will be able to keep the Moose Mountie afterwards, if they choose to.
"We often deal with people in very stressful situations, which are all the more challenging for a child or a person with dementia," says PEI RCMP's Commanding Officer, Jennifer Ebert. "Having Moose Mounties 'on duty' gives our members another way to connect with a person in distress, and to give that person comfort when they need it the most."
The Moose Mounties are being provided to Island RCMP via the RCMP Veteran's Association – PEI Division.
"Each Moose Mountie has a special connection as it is sponsored by a member of the RCMP Veteran's Association, a relative, a serving RCMP officer, or by someone in the community," says Scott Ferris, President of the Association.
