Maskwacis RCMP – Seeking the public's assistance in locating male wanted for attempted murder

On Saturday, February 26, 2022, at approximately 5 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP were dispatched to a local area hospital for two males that were dropped off suffering from gun shot wounds. It was quickly learned that the shooting had taken place out on the Louis Bull Tribe, in Maskwacis.

The Maskwacis General Investigation Section (GIS) took carriage of the investigation and identified two suspects leading to charges against both. On Friday, March 11, 2022, a 22-year-old male from the Louis Bull Tribe was arrested and charged with the following criminal code offences:

  • Attempted murder (X2)
  • Discharge of a firearm while being reckless
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Breach of a firearms prohibition
  • Fail to comply with a release order (X4)

He was remanded into custody after a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The second suspect in the shooting was identified as an 18-year-old male from the Ermineskin Cree Nation. He is wanted for the following offences:

  • Attempted murder (X2)
  • Discharge of a firearm while being reckless
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

He is described as the following:

  • Indigenous male
  • 5 feet 1 inch tall (154 cm)
  • 132lbs (59 kg)
  • Brown hair
  • Brown eyes

The 18-year-old male is believed to be in the Maskwacis area, but he is also known to frequent the City of Wetaskiwin, Alta. and the Town of Ponoka, Alta.
