Halifax District RCMP has arrested a man and a woman after they attempted to flee at a high rate of speed on Hwy. 103 in Timberlea.
On October 10, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., Halifax District RCMP observed a vehicle, believed to be involved in thefts of copper, travelling on Hwy. 103 near Timberlea. RCMP officers attempted a traffic stop on the Audi A4 but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. RCMP officers did not pursue the vehicle.
Shortly after, the vehicle was located on Hwy. 103 near Upper Tantallon. An RCMP officer successfully deployed a spike belt and the vehicle continued on Hwy. 103 until it became immobilized.
RCMP officers safely arrested a 27-year-old Liverpool woman and a 24-year-old Conquerall Mills man, who were both passengers in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. A search of the area by an RCMP police service dog team was unsuccessful.
Also present in the vehicle was a young child, who did not suffer any injuries. The RCMP has contacted the Department of Community Services.
During a search of the vehicle RCMP officers located and seized break in instruments and large copper wires.
The man and woman were both released on conditions and will be charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Flight from Police. They will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on December 12, 2022, at 10 a.m.
The search for the driver and investigation are ongoing.
