In early April 2022, the RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) team, with the assistance of the Sylvan Lake RCMP GIS Unit, began an investigation into a repeat property crime offender working out of the Sylvan Lake area. As a result of the investigation, on April 20, 2022, the Sylvan Lake RCMP GIS Unit executed a search warrant on a property on Woodlands Crescent in Sylvan Lake. As a result of the search, RCMP located a great deal of suspected stolen property, including firearms, and a moped. At this time, RCMP have linked the stolen property to at least six break and enters in the Red Deer, Alta. and Sylvan Lake area. RCMP also located two stolen vehicles as a result of this investigation.
RCMP have charged a 37-year-old individual of Sylvan Lake, with 35 different offences including charges for property, weapons, and failing to comply with release conditions. He has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for May 3, 2022, at Red Deer Provincial Court.
