News release

As a result of a complaint regarding a November 8 news article, PEI RCMP have charged the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

On November 14, the Major Crime Unit began a breach of publication ban investigation, which led to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) being charged with Disobeying an Order of Court.

"Publication bans are court orders put in place by a judge," says Cst. Gavin Moore, Media Relations Officer." Their purpose is to protect the identity of the victims of crime; to disclose details about those persons is considered a criminal offence."

CBC representatives will appear in Charlottetown Provincial Court on January 16, 2023, at 1 p.m.
